Only children who live in Florida and are placed by a Florida court are eligible to receive family caregiver benefits in Florida. A child interned in Florida by a court. A child placed in Florida by a court in another state is not eligible. Otherwise, it will take about 30 days for the family member to approve or deny the case and longer for the family member to actually receive the benefits. Assistance funds for family caregivers are paid directly to the caregiver by the State of Florida through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds.
The program is designed to provide adolescents in foster care and their caregivers with the resources and support they need to increase the stability of family placements and improve the well-being of the entire family. Embrace Families, in partnership with the Children's Home Network, provides family caregivers with the support and resources they need. If the family already receives the TCA, family caregiver benefits will be approved about 10 days after receiving the completed communication form. Anyone who was with the person at the time of the crisis can ask for help: parents, caregivers, family members, school staff, first responders, etc.
If the child is receiving social security, it is very likely that they will not qualify for Family Caregiver Funds or TANF.
